I want to share with you an inspiring teen, Abby and Orissa her Guiding eyes for the Blind dog! For anyone who has a furbaby in their home, can you imagine falling in love with your baby and knowing you would soon have to give them over to someone else? Well, this is what Abby signs up for. Abby and her family have taken in numerous puppies training them as they grow to be able to service people with special needs that these unique canines can assist with.
When I first met Abby she was training another dog and I remember being so blown away at how a young girl could not only handle all these emotions but could also have the skills to train a dog so efficiently for these programs! Here we are years later and she is training a new dog and seeing success with the dogs that she has previously trained. It’s so impressive what she and her family have done to help others be more independent!
On day of our session, we went to Mendon Ponds and boy was it cold! 😯 Aside from being freezing, we had a great time taking Orissa into the park. Watching her get excited about the snow and smells was entertaining, thankfully the deer kept their distance! But she is such a fun and friendly personality that laughter was in abundance. We all enjoyed watching her discover that the woods was full of surprises!
You can see from the images Abby and Orissa have a special bond. While Abby is the “boss” here, she also is adored by Orissa. She is very focused and intense when it is time to listen and get to work. But when work is done, you can see that adoration come out! Look at how she leans into her and gives her cheek a little nose nuzzle in those images on the bottom row. It is undeniable! 😀
